Summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of Eight Perfect Murders comes the heart-pounding story of nine strangers who receive a cryptic list with their names on it - and then begin to die in highly unusual circumstances。

Nine strangers receive a list with their names on it in the mail。 Nothing else, just a list of names on a single sheet of paper。 None of the nine people know or have ever met the others on the list。 They dismiss it as junk mail, a fluke - until very, very bad things begin happening to people on the list。 First, a well-liked old man is drowned on a beach in the small town of Kennewick, Maine。 Then, a father is shot in the back while running through his quiet neighborhood in suburban Massachusetts。 A frightening pattern is emerging, but what do these nine people have in common? Their professions range from oncology nurse to aspiring actor。

FBI agent Jessica Winslow, who is on the list herself, is determined to find out。 Could there be some dark secret that binds them all together? Or is this the work of a murderous madman? As the mysterious sender stalks these nine strangers, they find themselves constantly looking over their shoulders, wondering who will be crossed off next。。。。

All of Mr。 Swanson’s books are a page turning tour de force (just try and put them down!)。 But I did have a few problems with the plot holes - no spoilers though。 I also did not like the audiobook narrator。 But love the premise of the novel — great literary/ mystery themes and call backs from classic novels。

I would round this up to a 3。5 stars as it was a quick and entertaining read。 I have never been blown away by Swanson’s writing and this book falls into that category。 However, I always seem to read his books so that is to his credit。 Loosely based on Agatha Christie’s “And Then They Were None”。 Nine random people are given letters with their names on a “hit”list。 How are they connected? Perhaps a few too many characters, and a bit unbelievable, but still a solid read for me。 I enjoyed this more I would round this up to a 3。5 stars as it was a quick and entertaining read。 I have never been blown away by Swanson’s writing and this book falls into that category。 However, I always seem to read his books so that is to his credit。 Loosely based on Agatha Christie’s “And Then They Were None”。 Nine random people are given letters with their names on a “hit”list。 How are they connected? Thank you to William Morrow for an advanced copy of Nine Lives。 This book is very reminiscent of Agatha Christie's 'And Then There Were None'。A list of 9 names is mailed out to each person on the list and slowly people are killed on the list。 The ending ended up being sad as the real reason for the list and killings are revealed。I really enjoyed Swanson's latest book as it was fast paced and easy to keep all the characters straight。 Thank you to William Morrow for an advanced copy of Nine Lives。 This book is very reminiscent of Agatha Christie's 'And Then There Were None'。A list of 9 names is mailed out to each person on the list and slowly people are killed on the list。 The ending ended up being sad as the real reason for the list and killings are revealed。I really enjoyed Swanson's latest book as it was fast paced and easy to keep all the characters straight。 。。。more

I am a huge fan of Peter Swanson and his thriller novels。 Nine Lives is a homage to And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie。 In this novel, people receive 9 names on a list。 One of the names is FBI agent Jessica Winslow, and she automatically considers the list to be evidence。 When one of the people on the list is the victim of a murder, Jessica realizes that her suspicions were correct。 She and other agents begin searching for a connection between the names。 Several of the people are in the I am a huge fan of Peter Swanson and his thriller novels。 Nine Lives is a homage to And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie。 In this novel, people receive 9 names on a list。 One of the names is FBI agent Jessica Winslow, and she automatically considers the list to be evidence。 When one of the people on the list is the victim of a murder, Jessica realizes that her suspicions were correct。 She and other agents begin searching for a connection between the names。 Several of the people are in their 30s-40s, and others are closer to 70-80。 No one seems to know the other names, but Jessica thinks she knows of a connection。 As more and more people die, the FBI knows that they need to move quickly to discover why this group has been targeted。 I enjoyed this super fast read, finding out about the targets, and why they were chosen。 It was a sad tale of righting a wrong, and there were a few additional deaths along the way。 I thought Swanson did a good job of paying tribute to Christie's masterpiece。 Still a big fan! Thanks to #NetGalley and #HarperCollins for the ARC。 All opinions are my own and freely given。 。。。more

As this was my first Peter Swanson read, I wasn’t sure what to expect! Reading the intriguing synopsis, I was excited to dive into this one since I’m trying to read more mystery/thrillers。From the title of the book I got the gist that there will be multiple POV’s。 What I didn’t expect was the amount of time and chapters it would take me to get invested。 It was a lot! Once the story picked up, It was a fast and easy read。 There definitely was a twist to this suspenseful plot, but I’m not sure tha As this was my first Peter Swanson read, I wasn’t sure what to expect! Finished this one over the course of a couple days。 It was a great mystery novel right from the start。 Nine names on a list。 Nine random strangers with no obvious connection to each other。 Or is there? The tagline on the book cover reads "If you're on the list someone wants you dead" So right away, a feeling of dread for the characters settles in。 The titles of the chapters in the book also allude to some not so good things about to happen。The mystery of course is quite evident。 Who is doing this Finished this one over the course of a couple days。 It was a great mystery novel right from the start。 Nine names on a list。 Nine random strangers with no obvious connection to each other。 Or is there? The tagline on the book cover reads "If you're on the list someone wants you dead" So right away, a feeling of dread for the characters settles in。 The titles of the chapters in the book also allude to some not so good things about to happen。The mystery of course is quite evident。 Who is doing this and why?Despite the fact there are nine+ characters introduced, the story was easy to follow。 Some characters weren't a part of the novel for very long。 There wasn't a chance to form any bond or connection with most characters and so it felt a little like reading short stories about the lives of the characters。 Normally in a book this might not sit well with me but it works in this book。Loved the references to the Agatha Christie book "And Then There Were None"。 There were no real heart racing terrifying moments which made my blood pressure rise but the flow and mystery of the storyline held my attention perfectly。 。。。more

Nine LivesA strange book, I kept having to go back to the list and at times kept losing the thread, but what an ending。 I had no idea how it was going to end。

I was long awaiting this book and it did not disappoint, for those of us that are PS lovers。 I Simply could not put it down。 I loved the introduction of his very interesting characters and was rooting for some of them。 Please don’t keep us waiting so long next time, PS!

Okay we have something here with this one Mr Swanson。 I crave that feeling I got from The Kind Worth Killing and this one could have gone there so easily。 I'm so disappointed that it didn't but it was fun。 I wish there was more show and less tell。 I can feel this book had the bones of a book I want Swanson to write。 This book was my break it book。 If he didn't follow through with this one I was going to be done but the premise for all his books just sound so incredible。 I don't think I could eve Okay we have something here with this one Mr Swanson。 I crave that feeling I got from The Kind Worth Killing and this one could have gone there so easily。 I'm so disappointed that it didn't but it was fun。 I wish there was more show and less tell。 I can feel this book had the bones of a book I want Swanson to write。 This book was my break it book。 If he didn't follow through with this one I was going to be done but the premise for all his books just sound so incredible。 I don't think I could ever not pick one up。 The ending was great and there were some unexpected moments as well。 。。。more

A really quick read。 An homage of sorts to AC’s “And then there were none”。 Entertaining enough to finish but not nearly as scary or thrilling as other Swanson novels。

After the disappointing Every Vow You Break, Swanson follows it up with another dud。 While the premise has potential it just didn’t work。 It’s fast paced book but the character development is nonexistent and you really don’t care for them。 You can tell Swanson is paying home to Christie’s And Then There Were None which is reference several times。

I love the premise of re-interpreting classic Agatha Christies。 While some hold the texts as sacrosanct, I think they are elegant plots than can slip into different locations, times and cultures。This book, however, is like a low budget TV movie that pays vague homage to And Then There Were None。 It reads like a collection of short, insubstantial character studies, rather like one of those Hammer House of Horror anthologies。Many other writers have played with the storyline more successfully, but I love the premise of re-interpreting classic Agatha Christies。 While some hold the texts as sacrosanct, I think they are elegant plots than can slip into different locations, times and cultures。This book, however, is like a low budget TV movie that pays vague homage to And Then There Were None。 It reads like a collection of short, insubstantial character studies, rather like one of those Hammer House of Horror anthologies。Many other writers have played with the storyline more successfully, but the key to a locked room mystery is to have, well, a locked room。This just isn’t interesting。* Thanks to Libby * 。。。more

I haven't enjoyed a Peter Swanson book this much since The Kind Worth Killing。 I finished reading this in one sitting because once I started I couldn't put it down。 It was well plotted, well paced and there were a few nice twists thrown in at the end。 While this isn't a locked-room style mystery, the inspiration from And Then There Were None is clear and well executed。 Despite there being a large cast of characters, I was never confused on who was who。 They were all well developed with unique an I haven't enjoyed a Peter Swanson book this much since The Kind Worth Killing。 I finished reading this in one sitting because once I started I couldn't put it down。 It was well plotted, well paced and there were a few nice twists thrown in at the end。 While this isn't a locked-room style mystery, the inspiration from And Then There Were None is clear and well executed。 Despite there being a large cast of characters, I was never confused on who was who。 They were all well developed with unique and interesting backstory, most undeserving of their fate。 These nine strangers all received a list with their names on it。 And they're all getting killed off one by one。 What is their connection? Who will be next? Are these killing justified? That last question is up for debate。 After all, is any killing ever justified? I've read several review that found the motive to be melodramatic。 I personally enjoyed it。 Years of regret, remorse and despair culminated in an act of revenge and, ultimately, peace for the killer。 I found the finale to be poetic in a way。 I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers。Side Note: If you haven't read And Then There Were None, read it prior to this one as there are a lot of spoilers。 And also because it's a darn good book! 。。。more

Meh。 And Then There Were None retellings always make me realize just how brilliant And Then There Were None is。 This was a bit boring with too many characters and none of them having enough development or interest for me to get invested in them (as opposed to a book like The One by John Marrs)。 It's cool to see how much Swanson loves the mystery genre especially when you read this along with Eight Perfect Murders, but I didn't have as much fun with this one as I did with EPM。 It was a quick read Meh。 And Then There Were None retellings always make me realize just how brilliant And Then There Were None is。 This was a bit boring with too many characters and none of them having enough development or interest for me to get invested in them (as opposed to a book like The One by John Marrs)。 It's cool to see how much Swanson loves the mystery genre especially when you read this along with Eight Perfect Murders, but I didn't have as much fun with this one as I did with EPM。 It was a quick read, but not a particularly memorable one。 Also the epilogue at the end was unnecessary and I'm not sure why it was there。 。。。more

Another great one for Peter Swanson。 Nine people receive a list of nine names - and one of them is their own。 None of them seem to know the others and they have no idea why they are on the list and if they are somehow connected。 When people on the list begin to be murdered one by one, those remaining try to protect themselves and a persistent cop works to figure out exactly how they fit together and why they are being killed。 A fast paced read with a satisfying conclusion。 Would definitely recom Another great one for Peter Swanson。 Nine people receive a list of nine names - and one of them is their own。 None of them seem to know the others and they have no idea why they are on the list and if they are somehow connected。 When people on the list begin to be murdered one by one, those remaining try to protect themselves and a persistent cop works to figure out exactly how they fit together and why they are being killed。 A fast paced read with a satisfying conclusion。 Would definitely recommend! 。。。more
